The skill of spinning wool is ancient, DROP SPINDLES thousands of years old have been found on archeological sites. Spinning fibre went hand-in-hand with civilisation. Until the spinning wheel was invented 3-4,000 years ago a drop spindle was the only way that yarn could be spun. It is still used today in many parts of the world.
